Soccer Head Coach

  • Coach Julio Ayala was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. Attended Verbum Dei High School were he played soccer and ran cross country. Coach Ayala graduated from Humboldt State University with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology: Emphasis in Exercise Science and Health Promotion. Also, earned Master’s of Science in Kinesiology: Emphasis Coaching and Exercise Science through Concordia Irvine University in 2020. While at Humboldt State, did personal training at Health Sport Gym and helped at the Humboldt State University Human Performance Lab with screening clients, completing different fitness assessment, and evaluating results to help develop programs for clients.  Started coaching at College of the Redwoods as a volunteer intern assistant for the men’s soccer team in spring 2017 helping them with spring season conditioning in the weightroom, developing their overall strength and their cardio fitness. After that became the assistant coach to the College of the Redwoods women’s team in the fall of 2017 helping the program restart after a hiatus and achieving great success in its first year back. Then he was promoted to head coach in 2018. Over 20 female student-athletes graduated with associates, finishing certificate programs, and transferring to different universities under his leadership. During his time on the staff as head coach and assistant, had helped the program achieved 2 out its 3 winning seasons in programs history (2017-18 and 2019-20) with a %.500 or better win/loss overall record. Also, while coaching the soccer team worked as an instructor for the Department of Athletics at College of the Redwoods teaching different fitness courses and working for the multicultural center as a tutor, helping run Latino student club, run presentations for the center, help with open tutoring and support.  In summer of 2022 made the move to Contra Costa College as the head soccer coach, helping the men’s soccer program achieve runner ups in the Bay Valley Conference in 2022. Received nominations for Coach of the Year in 2022. Since taking over the program has helped over 10 students graduate, 3 have made the CCCSCA All Star Showcase, 10 have made the Bay Valley All Conference first and second teams, and several have been offered opportunities to play at the next level. While coaching soccer, Coach Ayala also teaches fitness courses for the kinesiology department at Contra Costa College. Coach Ayala has also earned US Soccer “D” License and US Soccer Grassroots license, Nor Cal Premier ACF Fiorentina Youth Development Diploma, Untied Soccer coach futsal diploma level 1, USA Weightlifting Sports Performance Coach Certification. Coach Julio believes in working hard and always giving your best. He wants the student- athletes to value education and the opportunity to play soccer at the college level and believes that community college offers a great pathway to bigger and better things.
