COMETS Aquatics

Jim Ulversoy Aquatics Coordinator and PE Instructor

Mr. Ulversoy, started working as a Lifeguard for the Contra Costa College Summer Swim Program in 1973. He played Water Polo and swam for CCC and then transferred to CSU Hayward (East Bay) to Swim and play Water Polo. He got his Teaching Credential in 1980 and started teaching at CCC, coaching High School Swimming, Water Polo and Supervising the Swim Lesson Program. He started coordinating the program in 1985. He came up with a slogan “All good swimmers have a beginning “, “It all starts here …”. We employ 35-40 young people from our Swimming and Water Polo teams to be Lifeguards and swim lesson Teachers. They pass along the interest in learning to swim and having fun in the water. We have hosted many Competitive Swim Meets and Water Polo tournaments that draw athletes and teams from all over the Bay area and sometimes from out of state. Once in a while, we see Olympic Athletes visit our pool. He see the swim lesson program as a vehicle to introduce swimming to many people in the community. Some of them will be CCC students. One day they may compete in High School and College. They maybe the next Swim Lesson teacher or Lifeguard watches your child swim and have fun. “It all starts here…”
